Today, we are highlighting a reality that affects millions of women around the world, but also here, close to home. Violence against women, whether physical, psychological, economic or sexual, is a scourge that must be fought with determination.
Some alarming figures:
One in three women worldwide has experienced violence in her lifetime.
In Belgium, one in four women is a victim of domestic violence.
Every 10 days, a woman dies at the hands of her partner or ex-partner.
These figures are not just statistics. They represent broken lives, journeys marked by fear and, all too often, enforced silence.
What can we do?
- Listen to and believe victims.
- Report sexist or violent behaviour.
- Support organisations that fight for women’s rights.
- Demand stronger public policies against perpetrators.
We all have a role to play in putting an end to this violence. This fight concerns us all, regardless of our gender or background.
Let us stand together for a fairer, more equal and safer society for all women.
If you are a victim or witness of violence, do not remain alone.
